Canadian Junior “A” Champions (1997 Royal Bank Cup). They defeated the Restigouche River Rats, Charlottetown Abbie’s and Dartmouth Oland’s to win the Maritime Junior “A” title (MJAHL), playing virtual non-stop hockey (13 games in 16 nights) in two provinces. They won in six games against the Abbie’s, following a major ice storm on the island; the final series was much the same against the Oland’s team from Dartmouth, requiring a seventh game to decide the title. With little energy left, they had a tough time at the Fred Page Cup (Eastern Canada) but went home to prepare for the nationals. With fabulous goaltending (52 saves) from Harlin Hayes, they won the semi-final against the Weyburn (Sask.) Red Wings in overtime to head to the finals, winning 4-3 late in the third period over the South Surrey Eagles, after an early 3-1 deficit in the final game. A tough, resilient team that never gave up, especially when a game or series was on the line. 25th Year anniversary
