Mahar’s Transfer – 1967 Maritime Senior A Champion Fastball Team
- Type: Team
- Sport(s): Fastball
- Year: 2022
A dominant team in winning two NS consecutive titles (1966; 1967); they also won the Maritime Fastball title in their second year (1967) in convincing fashion, after a one-run loss in the deciding game the previous year. Their 1967 win was a dominant winning performance against a strong Fredericton team. Still, in both 1966 and 1967, among their toughest battles of the year involved winning the Halifax-Dartmouth league just to get into the provincial playdowns, then winning the mainland championship before capping two provincial titles in 1966 and 1967 against strong Cape Breton Island opposition. In 1966 they lost the Maritime title to Loggieville – two games to one – losing the final game by a 2-1 score. Loggieville was led by Stan Hennigar, who pitched and batted the NB team to the title. In 1967, Mahar’s defeated Fredericton in straight games to win the Centennial Maritime Fastball Championship, led by great hitting (22 hits in 2 games) and fielding by the Spears brothers, Gerry and Howie, Joe Mercer, Lyle Carter, and Emmerson Renouf, to name but a few, plus timely pitching by John Lippsett, Gary Whittier and Proulx.
